A resident has recalled the moments a car hit a power pole 15 metres from his front yard, rolled twice and watched the driver and passenger flee leaving the neighbourhood without power.
Emergency crews rushed to Neerdie Rd in Glenwood, 40km north of Gympie, after reports a vehicle had smashed into a power pole around 11am Tuesday.
Glenwood resident Brock Sutton was in his front yard building his children a flying fox for Christmas when a car came “speeding” down the road.
“They slowly swerved off the road to the opposite side and hit the power pole with the front driver side,” Mr Sutton said.
The car sheared the post off completely, then went nose down up in the air and rolled twice for 20 metres, he said.
Mr Sutton then saw the pole and powerlines fall to the ground.
He said he went over to the car but before he got there the driver and passenger were already gone.
“I was just in awe at seeing people climbing out of the car,” he said.
“I thought with certainty I was up to a dead body and there was no way I wasn’t dragging someone out, but they just crawled right out.”
