Gympie’s long-awaited Covid vaccination hub is finally set to open inside the Civic Centre towards the end of the next week, joining other Wide Bay hubs that have been open since May.

This comes as mandatory mask wearing and a three-day lockdown was announced for parts of South East Queensland, excluding the Gympie region.

The pending vaccination hub will remain open until the end of October, with appointments necessary to secure a jab.

A Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service spokesperson said Gympie residents will need to register their interest as soon as possible if they want to be vaccinated.

“The fastest way to receive your appointment for vaccination is to register via the Queensland Health website,” the spokesperson said.

“While appointments are necessary, it will be open until October 2021 so there is plenty of opportunity for everyone to receive their vaccination.”

The spokesperson said the vaccination is important to help keep the community safe and encouraged all eligible Gympie residents to register for their Covid-19 vaccination.

Once registered, residents will be allocated an appointment in their local area as soon as a booking slot becomes available.

Depending on priority status and demand within the region, residents may receive an appointment within 24 hours or it may take several days or weeks to receive an appointment allocation.

Anyone who registers for their vaccination online will need to receive a link via email to be able to book an appointment.

The spokesperson said they hope to be able to confirm the opening date of Gympie’s vaccination centre in the coming days.
