Australia’s biggest regional short film festival is back next month to showcase nearly 150 productions from every corner of the globe, right here in Gympie.

Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival will run from October 9-12, featuring 138 films from 20 countries, including 17 world premiers and 45 Australian premiers, a spokesperson said in the program’s September 15 media release.

In addition to the centrepiece short film program hosted at Gympie Cinema, special events including the Opening Night Gala, a comedy night, art exhibitions, and live music performances will be spaced throughout the four-day program across various locations in Gympie’s CBD.

The International Awards Ceremony will take place on the Saturday, October 11 at Gympie Cinema, the spokesperson said.

“Gympie Music Hall, Gympie Regional Gallery and ART POST Contemporary Gallery, along with Gympie Cinema, provide attendees with plenty to see over the four day festival.

“Roving theatre performers and a community street chalk project are all part the program that activates Gympie’s cultural precinct.”

Festival director Nicole Harper said the program demonstrates the festival’s “growing global reputation”.

“We’re thrilled to bring such an extraordinary range of films and experiences to Gympie,” Ms Harper said.

“Heart of Gold continues to prove that regional Queensland can host a festival that rivals – offering inclusivity, diversity, and stories that connect us all.”

To celebrate the Heart of Gold festival’s launch, a “Go Gold Block Party” will be held on the opening Thursday, October 9 at Gympie Regional Gallery with an open-air cinema, live music, stalls, food and activities kicking off at 5pm.
