Gympie’s golfing ladies played it out in the recent Pink Ball comp

Claire Thorburn, Toni Divers and Carol Ward won the Pink Ball competition in Gympie Ladies Golf, and Michael Smoothey took out the A-grade men’s club championship.

Last Wednesday (26/5), in great golfing weather, ladies played a Pink Ball Stableford competition which proved a most interesting day with a few great stories as to what lengths some ladies took to keep the pink ball in play.

Claire Thorburn, Toni Divers and Carol Ward combined well coming in winners.

Claire had the best individual score of 39 points. Well done Claire.

Joy Hatton will be smiling all the way to ‘Eat at Candy’s, Mary Street, to enjoy her coffee. Pin Shots: 2nd Shot Par 3 Third – Del Groundwater and 2nd Shot Par 3 Seventeenth - Jean Peters. Del Groundwater was the only clever lady to have a birdie – Par 5 Fifteenth.

Saturday (29/5), ladies played the third round of the Club Stroke Championships sponsored by Bendigo Bank.

Winner of the daily competition was junior Caitlyn Wheatley, with a great 65 nett.

Maureen Carroll came in Runner Up with 69 nett, another great score. Carol Ward (73), Del Groundwater, Lesley Sutton (74) and Zoe Powell (75) won balls in the rundown. Both Pin Shots - 2nd Shot Par 3s - 9th and 12th were won by Caitlyln.

Birdies: Maureen Carroll and Zoe Powell - Par 3 17th, Caitlyn was so clever she managed to hole 4 birdies (I dream!!) – Par 4 - 4th, Par 5s - 5 & 7 and Par 3 - 9th.. Well Done Caitlyn you certainly had a great day.

Sunday (30/5) was the final round of the Club Championships.

Karen Mills was daily competition winner on 73 nett and Carol Ward, Runner Up, only one shot behind (74) on a countback from Lesley Sutton. Jean Peters and Lorraine Elliott (76) won balls in the rundown. Pin Shots: 2nd Shot Par 3 6th – Del Groundwater, 2nd Shot Par 3 17th – Grace Kelleher.

Results of Bendigo Bank Ladies Club Championships: Gross Winner and Ladies Club Champion- Grace Kelleher, Runner Up – Del Groundwater.

Nett Winner – Lesley Sutton, Runner Up – Lorraine Elliott. These two ladies finished with the same overall score of 295 nett with Lesley winning on a countback – how close was that!!. Congratulations to the winners and well done to all the ladies who completed the four rounds (72 holes / approximately 16½ hours).

C Grade: Gross Winner: Errol Ward. Runner Up: Brian Carroll

Nett Winner: Lester Pettit. Runner Up: Geoff Barling

On June 5, ladies are scheduled to play for the June Monthly Medal sponsored by Neilson, Stanton & Parkinson. Wednesday (09/06) a Single Stableford is scheduled.

Open Days scheduled for June include: Pelican Waters (17/6), Mt Coolum (23/6), Headland (28/6) and North Coast Zone Silver and Bronze Championships – Maroochy River (21/6). There are a few other District and Zone events coming up so please check the Away Book and Noticeboard for more information
