Children young and old will have no shortage of Showbag choice at the 2021 Gympie Show, with organisers revealing more than 200 different packs of excitement and yummies up for grabs.
With two days to go until the grand return of the biggest social event on the Gympie region calendar, and following last year’s COVID-enforced cancellation, Showbags Australia’s Belinda Whitby said this year’s range had something for everybody, and all tastes.
Popular characters and brands including The Wiggles, Emma, Baby Shark, Freddo, Harry Potter, Bluey, LOL Surprise, Hatchimals, Peppa Pig, Nickelodeon Slime Zone, Thomas the Tank Engine, Hot Wheels, and lolly bags including Mars and M&M Chocolates.
Those looking for best value should keep an eye out for the World’s Biggest Jumbo or Sourblast bags (each offering a plethora of lollies) on the market for $20, Ms Whitby said.
Patrons hunting for the cheapest should not go past the range of Cadbury bags on offer for about $5 each.
She expected the most popular to be the Bertie Beetle ones “because it’s a Showbag institution”.
“You can’t buy it anywhere else,” Ms Whitby said.
And the quirkiest?
“That would be the Rick and Morty bag,” Ms Whitby said, part of a line of Showbags for teenagers which also included Pokemon and Paw Patrol.
Teenagers would not miss out either, with Assassins Creed, Back to the Future and Supernatural bags on offer.
“(Showbags) are not just for kids,” Ms Whitby said.
Each of these cost $30.
There was a range of bags carrying more traditional themes, like the army and the wild west going for about $25 each, too.
Ms Whitby, who is helping get Ipswich’s big event ready before travelling to Gympie, said this year’s shows in New South Wales had been exceptionally well received.
She hoped the same would hold true in Gympie.
“It’s been a very tough 12 months for everyone,” she said.
The Show starts Thursday with show jumping starting the fun from 7.30am.
