Gympie region high on animal cruelty complaints

ANIMAL cruelty complaints in the Gympie region are high for the size of the population according to the latest RSPCA report.

For a population that makes up 1.03 % of Queensland's population, animal cruelty complaints in the region make up 1.7% of the state's complaints.

Out of a total of 18 369 animal cruelty complaints in Queensland in the last financial year, 312 were in the Gympie region. 

Gympie had 135 complaints, Cooloola Cove and Glenwood had 19 each, One Mile had 17 and Veteran 8. 

Neighboring suburbs not included in the region's total were Cooran and Cooroy with 28 together, Pomona 15, Theebine and Tiaro 12 together,  Kenilworth 10, and Kin Kin 4. 

A RSPCA spokesman described the number as quite high , adding that the RSPCA inspector, who covers Gympie and the Sunshine Coast, had a constant flow of work. 

He said though there were other areas in the state, such as Townsville, Deception Bay, Morayfield and Caboolture which were worse in the state. 

He said while there can be a back log with investigating complaints, he urged people to report acts of animal cruelty as they would all be investigated.

He said if as much information as possible it helps.
