Gympie police warn of thieves causing havoc

Gympie police are investigating a spate of crime in the Gympie region after brazen thieves took anything that wasn’t nailed down in May. Read the story, vote in our poll:

Multiple motor vehicles including motorbikes, trailers, a caravan, tip truck and boat were stolen in Gympie and surrounding areas in May and police have called for anyone with any information to come forward.

Between 10pm on Saturday, April 30 and 6am on Sunday, May 1, two off-road motorcycles were stolen from the back of a utility which was parked at an address on Wises Road, Gympie. One of the off-road motorcycles has been located, the other motorcycle which is described as black, and green has not been located. QP2200738089 refers.

At about 5.45am on Monday, May 2, a vehicle which was parked on Turana Street, Rainbow Beach was entered and stolen. The vehicle was located two days later. QP2200743636 refers.

Between 6.30pm on Wednesday, May 4 and 7am on Thursday, May 5, entry was gained to a secure yard area and a trailer was stolen from an address on Flood Road, East Deep Creek. The trailer has Queensland registration 629UNB. QP2200760882 refers.

Between 12.30pm on Saturday, May 7 and 5.25am on Monday, May 9, a construction site office on Noosa Road, Mothar Mountain was broken into and keys stolen. A white 2019 Toyota LandCruiser utility bearing Queensland registration PDS01 was entered and stolen. QP2200783163 refers.

Around 5.20pm on Monday, May 9, a shed at a residence on Penny Road, East Deep Creek was entered, where a vehicle was entered and stolen. The vehicle was located the next day. QP2200787597 refers.

Between 5pm on Saturday, May 21 and 7am on Monday, May 3, a secure yard on Railway Court, Glanmire was broken into and a 2007 Jayco Sterling caravan was stolen. The caravan has Queensland registration 365QPR. QP2200865370 refers.

Between midnight on Wednesday, May 25 and 10am on Monday, May 30, a 1973 Cruise Craft boat with registration BCC82Q on a boat trailer with Queensland registration FF7651 was stolen from a carpark near the One Mile Ovals, Crescent Road, Gympie. QP2200911049 refers.

Between 8pm on Thursday, May 26 and 8.30am on Friday, May 27, a vehicle parked on a driveway at a residence on Brahman Court, Chatsworth was entered and stolen. The vehicle was located the same day. QP2200890399 refers.

At about 11.30pm on Friday, May 27, a carport to a residence was entered at an address on Old Maryborough Road, Gympie, where a 2002 black Suzuki GSF1200 motorcycle with Queensland registration 909IU was stolen. QP2200900429 refers.

Between 6am and 9am on Saturday, May 28, a vehicle which was parked on Kiaka Road, Lagoon Pocket was entered and stolen. The vehicle was located later the same day. QP2200900244 refers.

It is alleged between 5.30am and 8.40pm on Monday, May 30, a residence on a rural property on Gresham Road, Kybong was broken into, keys located, and a vehicle stolen. The vehicle is a silver 2007 Nissan Patrol station wagon bearing Queensland registration V8P35T. QP2200913719 refers.

Between midnight and 5am on Tuesday, May 31, a premise on Violet Street, Gympie was broken into. A blue 2009 Ford Ranger dual cab with Queensland registration CTB09 was stolen along with a white 2019 Isuzu tip truck with Queensland registration CTB37. Milwaukee power tools were also stolen. Police are reminding residents that most car thefts are opportunistic and there are a number of things you can do to reduce the risk of having your car stolen or broken into:

Park your vehicle in well-lit and highly visible areas whenever possible

When parking in a garage, ensure both the garage and vehicle are locked and the garage door remotes are secured

Consider installing a car alarm or steering wheel lock to help protect your vehicle

Consider installing a remote engine immobiliser which meets Australian Standards

Always lock your vehicle, including the canopy, boot, and sunroof, remember to fully close all windows

Half of all vehicles stolen use the keys – always keep your keys out of sight and never leave vehicle keys lying around on tables, benches, bedside tables, or key hooks

Always take your vehicle keys with you whenever you are going out, even if you are leaving your vehicle at home.
