From last-minute pizza orders to late night drives, Uber has rolled out its food delivery and transport services in Gympie, starting Wednesday, June 4, with the promise of boosting the local economy.
It is also offering a more consistent ride-hailing service in the city.
While some fast-food staples are yet to go live — such as McDonald’s and Guzman y Gomez — there are a number of options already available on Uber Eats, Uber’s food and product delivery service app.
Locals opening their Uber app will now find transport options available, instead of the usual “no drivers” pop-up locals are used to seeing.
Gympie is one of 14 regional Queensland towns the company has just rolled Uber Eats out to.
Towns as close as Kingaroy, to as far away as Mount Isa have also joined the Uber network in an effort to “give nearly one million more Australians access to the Uber Eats platform,” a company spokesman said.
They said Uber Eats was looking to more than double its footprint in Australia in 2025.
“This national rollout is expected to generate $45 million in new restaurant revenue, add $19 million to regional GDP, and create over 2500 new delivery partner earning opportunities.
“By leveraging its technology to support small businesses and residents nationwide, Uber aims to unlock meaningful economic opportunities and deliver the same level of convenience enjoyed in metro areas to previously underserved communities.”
