Monster crowds are already celebrating the 40th Gympie Music Muster with the biggest numbers still to come this weekend.
It comes after a ripper start on Thursday and Friday.
The sky was clear, the drinks were flowing and the voices of thousands of campers singing along to the likes of Casey Barnes and Brad Cox echoed across the Amamoor State Forest.
Muster Chairman Greg Cavanagh said the crowd was expected to be even bigger in the days ahead.
Friday night’s line up of performances on the main stage included Troy Cassar-Daley, Fanny Lumsden and Travis Collins.
Mr Cavanagh said he was expecting a crowd of up to eight thousand on Friday night, though this was nowhere near the venues’ capacity.
He believes Saturday will be the winner.
“(It) will be one of our better crowds we’ve ever had … it’s going to be up there,” he said.
But despite the overall merriment, Mr Cavanagh said the team had run into some “minor issues” regarding some campers bringing furry friends along with them for the ride.
“Anyone who has asked us, we have tolerated dogs because some people are often travelling; but if they’re disruptive, they’re asked to leave,” he said.
This year marks the festival’s return for the first time in three years, following the cancellation of the 2021 and 2020 Musters due to complications throughout the pandemic.
Thousands of festivalgoers flooded the Muster campgrounds on Wednesday, as they prepared to spend the next four days partying until the cows come home.
Tents and firepits lined the Amamoor State Forest, with punters already dressed in their best flannels and boots.
Muster chairman Greg Cavanagh said the weather, which was warm with clear skies, was “magic”.
“We had maybe a few (millimetres) of rain last night to settle the dust … It’s actually perfect.” he said.
It was so perfect, thousands rushed to the campground before the celebrations officially kick off on Thursday; to the point where Mr Cavanagh said the grounds were “nearing capacity”.
“We are really happy with our sales … Obviously we’ve had the last few years off so we’re excited to be back,” he said.
The Gympie Music Muster will run from Thursday, August 25 until Sunday, August 28, 2022.
