A young girl was rushed to hospital from Veteran on Friday afternoon June 21, after being bitten on the ankle by a snake.

A young girl has been transported by ambulance to Gympie Hospital in “a serious condition” after being bitten by a snake at a private home at Veteran, on the outskirts of Gympie, about 3.30pm on Friday.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the girl was primary school aged and it had been confirmed she had been bitten on the ankle by a snake, but that the kind of snake remained unknown.

He said it appeared the situation was being treated seriously because it was a confirmed snake bite, but the little girl’s symptoms were not severe and the snake had not been identified.
