The future of Gympie Diggers football was in the spotlight on Thursday when more than 100 of its young players celebrated the end of season 2022 break-up, with several players taking out top awards.
Players, parents, club members and volunteers spent the afternoon commemorating the efforts to ensure the season went ahead, once again impacted and shortened by the lingering Covid pandemic now in its second year.
The Diggers’ main awards were also announced, with five of the region’s rising stars taking out Lachlan Nicholls Award, the Morton-Allen Family Shield, the Neil Jones Award, and the U11 and U12 Player’s Player awards.
These are the winners for the 2022 season.

These five rising stars were not the only on field talent celebrated at the event.
Young players from across Diggers received their team trophies as well, prompting dozens of broad smiles and toothy grins from those assembled who had spent countless hours on Gympie’s fields this year and were clearly enjoying their time in the spotlight.
