'BLOODY awesome' is how one pair of visitors described the Gympie Aero Club's Open Day on Sunday.
And by the number of people and smiles on their faces it seemed most attendees would have been in agreement.
From kids getting a turn in cock-pits, to flying enthusiasts catching up with old friends and talking shop, the Gympie Airport at Kybong was abuzz.
One Gympie man said "you wouldn't be able to punch the smile off my face if you tied" after he won a free sky-dive at the event and used it on the day.
Scott Day said he got a phone call while he was still at the event telling him he'd won and he could use it then and there if he wanted.
He said the tandem jump from 10 000 feet including 30 seconds of free-fall gave him the biggest adrenalin rush he'd ever had.
While flying over the Gympie Airport he said the sights of the region were beautiful- from Pomona to Rainbow Beach to out west.
Gympie Aero Club president Tony Hanlon said he couldn't have hoped for a better day.
"One of our primary drives was to remind the Gympie region residents they've got an airport," he said.
Visitors also enjoyed a jumping castle, petting zoo, entertainment and a hot rod and motorbike display.
