MARY St will come to life, and to light, next month as part of this year's Gold Rush Festival celebrations.

Gold Rush activities start Sunday, October 7, and will run week-long around Gympie, but Mary St will host the highlight of the festival with The Gold Rush Street Parade and Street Party on Saturday, October 13.

The Gold Rush Party has been held at Nelson Reserve for many years, but this year it returns to the main street and this year Mary St will be all lit up with a futuristic laser light show to close the festival.

Gold Rush Festival Gympie District president Jan Collins thinks returning the Gold Rush celebrations to Mary St will help continuity on the day.

"I think bringing it back to Mary St is exciting. It connects everything, it's more inclusive having it in the main street," Mrs Collins said.

From 12.30pm on Saturday, October 13, Mary St will be closed from the Five Ways Roundabout to the Monkland St end.

A line-up of family friendly activities such as jumping castles, face painting and City Centre Stage live entertainment will warm up the street before The Gold Rush Parade with all its colour and noise begins at 3pm.

Businesses, community organisations and schools are encouraged to enter a float in the Gold Rush Street Parade and as many people as possible are encouraged as onlookers to make the festival a success.
