A Mary Valley couple who previously proposed turning their 64ha rural block into a camping ground are now seeking instead transform it into a function and wedding venue with overnight accommodation.
Garry and Natalie Wheeler have asked Gympie Regional Council for permission to redevelop their Kandanga Creek block into an event hub able to host up to 70 guests.
The couple had previously proposed turning the block located on Kandanga Creek Rd, about 23km south of Gympie and not far from where the Mitchell Creek Rock n Blues Festival is held, into a campground.
Those plans, lodged in 2022, outlined a plan to redevelop the block to into a campground boasting 11 sites.
The plans were withdrawn by the Wheelers in October 2024.
Under the new plans, the Wheelers want to transform a barn on the block into a function centre and renovate two existing homes on the land for overnight wedding party guests.
It is proposed a maximum of 26 events, an average of one every fortnight, would be held between 8am and 10pm.
Parking for 30 cars would be included in the development.
The proposed new campground at the property would consist of seven campsites and one cabin, to be built south of the function centre.

It would be restricted to use by function guests and not be open to the public.
Loud noise will be required to stop at campsites by 10pm and portable generators will not be allowed between 10pm and 7am.
The council’s planning department has not yet made any decision on the Wheelers’ application.
