Fire breaks out in tower of Laminex Monkland plant

Multiple fire crews are on the scene at Laminex timber processing plant on the outskirts of Gympie after reports of an explosion in a tower at the plant, followed by fire on Wednesday morning.

A Queensland Fire Department spokesperson said at 10.30am three crews were at the Langton Road site and all staff had been accounted for.

The fire is believed to have broken out shortly before 9.30pm

Reports were circulating on social media that the fire had been preceded by a “large explosion”.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said there had been no injuries in the incident.

The incident was unfolding still at 10.45am.
