Famous farm no biggie to Pete

YOU might know of Ernie Dingo and John Jarratt, but there is one man you might not recognise and he's the bachelor who owns Gympie's most famous farm.

YOU might know of Ernie Dingo and John Jarratt, and if you were a Packed to the Rafters fan you might have heard of Hugh Sheridan, but there is one man who's in the same line up, who you might not recognise.

Lagoon Pocket farmer Peter Beattie is a regular Joe, except for one difference - he's had a string of Australian and American celebrities visit his 380-acre (153ha) property to film Chris Sun's latest horror movie Boar.

Members of a star-studded line-up, which effectively turned the Gold City into a mini Hollywood last September when filming began, revisited the farm on Wednesday to wrap up final scenes in the area.

Boar, which features a menacing eight foot, two-tonne wild boar with a taste for blood, follows Sunshine Coast film director Chris Sun's first success, Charlie's Farm, which starred American actress Tara Reid.

Charlie's Farm was also shot at Mr Beattie's property, which began the Valley farmer's connection with the silver screen when a location scout liked the look of his old shed and cottage sitting on open grassy hills, much to his surprise.

"I didn't think there was anything particularly special about an old farm shed," the easy going property owner joked.

But it seems Mr Beattie got used to having the cast and crew about his place, which totalled about 60 people, including actors, cameramen, makeup and wardrobe artists and caterers.

He rubbed shoulders with the big names, sharing many meals and jokes as they spent time between sets.

The visiting cast thought it was a lovely place, and a few were keen to return to fish in the Mary River, he said.

But until then, Mr Beattie will have to see his new friends and the ferocious flesh-eating Boar on the big screen later in the year like the rest of us.

He may even see someone more familiar in the film, he hinted.

But he refused to let the surprise out of the bag. Word on the street is though, it may just involve a shy Lagoon Pocket farmer.
