A man who suffered potentially life-threatening injuries in a shocking crash between a 4WD and buggy near Gympie has been flown to Brisbane for further treatment, a Sunshine Coast Health Service spokeswoman has said.
The man aged in his late 70s was one of two people seriously injured in the crash which happened on Cedar Pocket Road Tuesday, about 8km east of Gympie in the rural area of Cedar Pocket, blocking traffic in both directions.
The crash occurred just before 4pm on a straight stretch of bitumen and involved a silver four wheel drive and a green off-road Polaris type of vehicle which the man and woman, also in her 70s, were travelling in.
Each suffered “potentially life-threatening” injuries in the crash.
The couple was initially taken by ambulance to Gympie Hospital, the man with head and leg injuries, and the woman with face, chest and back injuries.
She was then transferred to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital and was in a stable condition.
The man was taken by helicopter to an unidentified Brisbane Hospital.
