Watch: Stranded family winched from flooded home

Footage of the sensational rescue of a family of three from their flooded home has emerged amid revelations more than 30 emergency rescues have been carried across the Wide Bay in the wake of a torrential downpour.

The three residents had to be winched from the second storey of their home after discovering they had no way of escaping the rising floodwaters.

An elderly couple were the first to be winched to safety, followed by their son aged in his 20s.

A QFES spokeswoman said the family reported they felt the house beginning to move.

It was the second family rescued from the inundated region by the helicopter crew

Earlier, at 7.45am, a family of four was flown to safety after being forced to spend the night in their car.

They had reportedly been driving from Proserpine to Brisbane about 11pm when their GPS redirected them to avoid flooding.

However they were soon cut off in all directions by floodwaters.

Weather conditions thwarted rescue attempts in the morning; the man, in his 50s, was eventually able to walk from his vehicle to a home 1km and call for help.

An RACQ Lifeflight spokesman said the chopper had been called out on more than 10 rescue missions, with several others still underway.
