Despite suffering court damage just weeks after the new multimillion-dollar Gympie netball facility opened, junior players scored a welcomed visit from Sunshine Coast Lightning team on Tuesday afternoon.
Members of the elite sports team ran about 50 Gympie netball players through drills and skills at their free pop-up clinic from 3.45pm to celebrate the official return of local netball, one of the most popular sports in the region.
Coordination, agility and fun were the name of the game, with Lightning players Gabby Sinclair, Mahalia Cassidy and Leesa Mi Mi splitting the netballers into drill-specific groups.
Hundreds participate in the weekly draws, Gympie and District Netball president Colleen Miller said from the sidelines of the new facility in Hyne Street.
Gympie netball is making full use of its three functional courts as it heads into round 7 this week.
The Lightning team have a busy 2026 ahead as they gear up for a pre-season rival clash against The Queensland Firebirds on the Gold Coast in February next year.
