Driver has lucky escape after car hits concrete barrier on Bruce Highway

Multiple emergency crews rushed to the scene of a crash on the Bruce Highway about 20km south of Gympie.

A driver has had a lucky escape in avoiding serious injuries when his car crashed into a concrete barrier on the Bruce Highway south of Gympie.

Crews were called to the scene of the crash, at an on ramp between Coles Creek and Federal, shortly before 4pm Monday.

Initial reports were the driver may have been trapped, but a Queensland Fire Department spokesman said officers were not required to free him from the wreckage.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the man, aged in his 40s, suffered no major injuries in the crash.

He was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital as a precaution.
