Dr Wilson, Dr Henry open new White Sands Dental in Goldfields Gympie

Keeping up with the high demand for dental work in Gympie, a couple from the Coast are sinking their teeth into a new business venture. See all the details and photos:

Gympie will soon be home to a new dentist surgery, as a Sunshine Coast couple prepare the space in Goldfields Plaza for opening day this week.

Dentists Charlie Henry and Jill Wilson, who met at university in England before moving to Sydney four years ago, currently live on the Sunshine Coast.

On Tuesday October 5, they will throw open the doors to their first surgery as a couple, White Sands Dental in Gympie.

Dr Henry said the practice had been fitted out with all the bells and whistles including two dental chairs to start with and television screens on the roof for relaxation purposes.

Dr Henry and Dr Wilson are the two dentists at White Sands Dental, Gympie.

“We’ve got some lovely staff on already so we’re looking forward to it and it’s super exciting,” Dr Henry said.

Both their sisters are also dentists, with one of the siblings owning another White Sands practice on the Sunshine Coast.

“We have worked on the Sunshine Coast for two years … we’re just excited to do our own thing,” he said.

While the married couple have been renovating and setting up the surgery of the last six weeks, Dr Wilson said Gympie residents had popped their head in to check out the space.

“We’ve shown them around and they come back a couple of times just to say ‘hi’,” she said.

“They seem to say they can’t get into a dentist and they're so happy there's a new dentist.”

Dr Wilson said people had also been commenting on the outside of the surgery and how nice it all looked.

“It is nice to hear because you see it on the plans for so long and then now it’s actually real, it’s amazing,” she said.

“It’s a good community vibe it’s kind of like where we grew up, people seem to know each other a lot better.”

After living in Sydney for two years, the couple said they felt a lot more at home in Queensland and were loving the welcoming people of Gympie.

“We want to get to know people long term, it’s a nice place, it’s beautiful,” Dr Henry said.

“The hills remind us of northwest England so we love the area and found this place in Goldfields and sometimes things happen for a reason I think.”

White Sands Dental will provide dental services to the people of Gympie from October 5.

The couple said they both enjoyed the social aspect of dentistry and being able to connect with different people.

“From a clinical sense, every case is different which is exciting as well, you are constantly learning,” Dr Henry said

“I am now doing a masters in route canal, I do a lot of restorative and cosmetic work.”

White Sands Dental is now taking bookings via phone or email and will have an online booking system up and running soon.
