A CURRA family has been devastated after watching their house razed to the ground after a fire ripped through it today just after 1pm on Thomas St.
The owners returned home from a trip to town to find a shocking scene before them. Firefighters from seven fire units were fighting the blaze, which was well underway before they arrived, but could not control the fire before it decimated the wooden house and two cars parked in the vicinity.
The family dog perished in the blaze, with neighbours saying they could hear yelping from inside the house as the blaze took hold.
Two pet cats were lucky to escape, one without injuries, but one was found singed and distraught and hiding in the culvert outside the house.
The family was in a state of despair and held each other as they watched the last moments of their family memories, possessions and home go up in flames.
Neighbours flocked to the scene to support the family.
A Queensland Fire Service spokeswoman said firefighters also extinguished multiple grass fires surrounding the property and were required to vent gas cylinders at the property.
