Residents were left shocked and disgusted after the stingrays were dumped without their barbs and in bags out the back of Nelson Rd on Thursday.
Resident Shan McClure shared a shocking image to Facebook showing the stingrays “stinking to high heaven” on Thursday afternoon.
The council’s Director of Community Sustainability Adrian Burns confirmed the stingrays had since been removed from the street, but no further investigations into who perpetrated the dumping would be carried out.
“(Council workers visited the site) at 9.10am (Friday morning) and had cleaned up the stingrays by 10.35am,” Mr Burns said.
“This is classified as littering or illegal dumping and would be investigated if there was evidence to investigate. However there was very little info available about the dead fish so no further investigation will be undertaken by Council.
“There are penalties for illegal dumping or littering should the people dumping be able to be identified. The legislation that governs this is the Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011.
“Issues of illegal dumping (or) littering should be reported to the Department of Environment and Science who enforce this and can issue enforcement notices and fines.”
