COORAN man has been airlifted by helicopter in a stable condition to the Royal Brisbane Hospital after a motorbike crash on Sunday.

The man, 39, was riding on Fraser Island early in the day and crashed when he hit a log. He was thrown about 10 metres and landed on his head.

After the crash he thought he was alright and continued to ride on the sand before catching the barge to Rainbow Beach, said an AGL Action Rescue spokeswoman.

But his friends were concerned when the man started to show worsening signs including an altered state of consciousness.

They called an ambulance, which treated him at the scene and transported him to the helipad for the flight to hospital, about 5.30pm.
