Gympie residents will soon be able to access new public transport options in more locations servicing growing areas of the city following the introduction of bus route upgrades.

The Gympie bus network is introducing two new routes to cover the suburbs of Southside and Gympie North.

From Monday, November 24, routes 768 and 769 will begin operation and other services will be extended to reach key locations and run at additional times.

“These new routes and extended services will make it easier for residents to get to work, school, medical appointments and local shops,” according to a press release from Gympie MP Tony Perrett.

He said that “for the first time”, an additional 4000 residents in Southside and Gympie North will have access to buses.

The changes come after consultation with the local community earlier this year.

During the consultation it was revealed that Gympie residents needed buses to be more frequent, accessible, reliable and to reach more key locations.

“A big step forward in connecting more of our community,” Mr Perrett said.
