Almost 40 Gympie businesses got behind the festival’s initiative to decorate the town in gold, a Heart of Gold press release said.

The community has come together to welcome visitors to the region and “show our golden hearts” this Thursday as the festival starts.

The Lions Op Shop and Karinya Florist have joined the fun to bring some more bling to their shopfront.

Business advocate Tony Goodman encouraged shop owners to join the fun and organised many schools and community groups to decorate Mary St’s trees in gold.

“The Mary Street traders will be rolling out the gold carpet to get behind the Heart of Gold Film Festival which is an iconic event for Gympie, by dressing their windows in gold and also every tree along the famous tree-lined boulevard,” Mr Goodman said.

“This will be an opportunity for the community to embrace the Gympie Go Gold by getting into the spirit of the festival.

“Come on down, join in and be part of the action.”

The Heart of Gold Festival will run from October 27-30 at the Gympie Pavilion.

A packed program of short films, live music, gala events, workshops and more will run throughout the event.

The program and tickets are available on their website.
