WINTER has gotten off to a warm and wet start in the Gympie region. If you woke up this morning thinking the temperature was quite pleasant, that's because the minimum was only 14.6 degrees at 6.50am this morning.

There is a strong chance of rain in Gympie this afternoon with light winds becoming E/SE 15 to 20 km/h in the late afternoon then becoming light in the evening.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster David Bernard said showers could continue on the Coast until Sunday.

"The showers are expected to hang around for the next couple of days and increase on Friday and at this stage there looks like some rain on Saturday and it should clear up after that," he said.

"The current forecast says there is a chance of showers on Sunday but the heavier stuff will be gone by Saturday."

The maximum temperatures is predicted to reach the low 20s today.
