Mrs Mackenzie said a rescue team had to cut back branches from the trees to safely remove the driver from the vehicle.

She said emergency service crews told her that had there been a passenger in the car, they would have been killed instantly.

The driver escaped serious in the crash and was taken to Gympie Hospital in a stable condition.

A QAS spokeswoman said he had no apparent injuries.
