A 13-year-old Sunshine Coast boy who suffered critical injuries in a horrific early morning crash outside Gympie has taken a positive step in his fight for life.

A 13-year-old teenager left fighting for life following an horrific single vehicle crash outside Gympie has taken a step forward in his recovery.
The teenager, from Caloundra West, was one of three people in the Mitsubishi Pajero when it veered off the road about 2.54am, struck a culvert and flipped onto its roof while travelling along Tin Can Bay Rd at Goomboorian.
A 17-year-old Cooloola Cove boy was driving the Pajero, and a 15-year-old from the same town was a second passenger.
The two boys were taken to Gympie Hospital with minor injuries.
Firefighters cut one of the boys free from the wreckage.
As of Wednesday morning the youth’s condition had improved to serious but stable.
He was flown to the Brisbane Hospital on Tuesday morning with critical injuries.

Police said the Pajero was not stolen.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the crash.
Police are urging anyone with dashcam footage that could assist or may have witnessed anything to come forward.
