Gympie golfers will get a unique chance to work on their game if a development application lodged with the council is green lit.

Gympie golfers keen to work on their swings away from the 18-hole course on the northern edge of the city, or the nine-hole course on the Southside will have a new option at their fingertips with plans to open a “world class” indoor simulated range at Monkland.

Mulligans Indoor Golf Centre has lodged a development application with Gympie Regional Council to open the range at an industrial building at Edwin Campion Drive, in the same industrial estate as Harvey Norman and Autobarn.

The simulator would be housed inside part of a newly completed industrial building.

It is described by the developer as “a computerised golf centre utilising professional grade equipment to provide a golfing excellence environment”, rather than a social experience.

The simulator would include four simulator bays and a golfing green, although the green would be “more of a filler”.

“The simulator technology to be utilised is world class with precision accuracy, measuring an extraordinary amount of data relating to the golf ball and golf club,” the application says.

“The simulators can be used for practice and for games.”

Sessions would usually last from 60-90 minutes, while groups of two to four would have the opportunity to book two-to-four hour-long sessions.

The proposed simulator would be housed within one unit of a three-unit industrial building recently constructed near Autobarn at Monkland.

The venue would be run as a “members-based facility operating like a 24-hour unstaffed gym whereby members will book a timeslot online and gain access to the facility utilising their keyless access”.

Group bookings would be expected to be made outside “typical” business hours.

The developer has said it would accept a condition that no more than six people be at the venue at any one time from 8am-4pm, Monday to Friday, to help alleviate any parking concerns.

It will not have a liquor licence or social areas away from the simulators themselves.

The council has not yet made a decision on the proposal.
