When it comes to seeking dental help, one online data specialist says Gympie residents are champing at the bit.

New research by business marketing website Localsearch said the Gympie region had the highest demand for dentists in Queensland, and the second highest in Australia.

The research was conducted by measuring the number of monthly Google searches made per 100,000 population in every Australian city and town.

Gympie had the highest rate in Queensland.

Byron Bay was the only town in Australia with a higher demand for the service.

Localsearch said there were 1529 monthly searches for dentists across the Gympie region per 100,000 residents.

This was 34 per cent higher than the Queensland search average, which was 1139 inquiries.

Queensland government records show there 3332 people on the public waiting list for dental care in the region.

This was up on the previous year, with records from July 2022 showing 3189 were on the public waiting list at the time.

The bulk of the people on these lists were waiting for general care.

The number has steadily increased in the past decade as the region’s population has grown.

Kingaroy and Emerald were the other two Queensland locales to place in the top 10 towns Australia-wide.

Queensland itself ranked fourth among the nation’s states, behind Western Australia, Victoria and South Australia.

Localsearch executive chairman Daniel Stoten said “the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare states that one in three adults feel uncomfortable about their dental appearance, underlining the importance of maintaining good oral health”.

Good teeth and gums can help people feel pain-free, comfortable, and confident. So it’s important to have regular check-ups and adopt good practices in between, like regular brushing and flossing.”
