Bucket to spin without stars

THE campaign to get radio and television megastars Hamish and Andy to open Gympie KFC's new spinning bucket seems to be lost.

THE campaign to get radio and television megastars Hamish and Andy to open Gympie KFC's new spinning bucket seems to be lost, despite more than 400 people signing up to a new Face Book campaign to get them to the Golden City.

The well-seasoned comic duo made Gympie the centre of the spinning KFC bucket universe when they championed Gympie resident Craig Brown's Face Book campaign to reinstall the iconic revolving bucket.

KFC buckled to the might of Hamish and Andy and are going to install the new $25,000 bucket, but the pair won't be able to make it to the opening because of technical reasons.

Claims the comic duo had turned chicken and weren't going to open the bucket knocked the stuffing out of a lot of Gympie fans.

Hamish and Andy's manager Sam Cavanagh said the boys weren't laying low or ducking for cover - it was only because of technical reasons they couldn't open the bucket.

“Unfortunately, due to technical and logistical reasons, it is not possible to safely broadcast the show to our 53 stations from the KFC in Gympie,” Mr Cavanagh said.

“KFC was only able to give us a three-week window as to when the bucket would spin, which meant booking and testing of the necessary requirements weren't possible.

“Anyway, these are rather boring technical details.

“The main thing is the boys have had a ball getting on board the campaign to get the Gympie KFC bucket spinning and will definitely be reflecting on their show when the bucket does finally spin.

“This is the best way for them to keep promoting Gympie to the rest of Australia.

“The boys are also keen as mustard to get to Gympie themselves to see the bucket in all its glory, up close and personal,” he said.

Craig Brown and partner Tara Jeffcoat thanked Hamish and Andy for all their support to get Gympie's iconic KFC bucket spinning again.

“Hopefully the boys will be able to visit Gympie's spinning the bucket some time in the future,” Tara said.

Booking and testing of the necessary requirements weren't possible.
