POLICE have charged a man after a recent traffic incident on Fraser Island.

About 1.35pm on Thursday, police stopped a four-wheel drive on Eastern Beach, Eurong when they noticed a 12-year-old boy allegedly driving the vehicle.

A 48-year-old Australian Capital Territory man seated in the front passenger seat was breath tested and charged with drink driving (because he was in charge the motor vehicle) after he allegedly registered a blood alcohol reading of 0.113%.

There was also a 14-year-old boy in the rear passenger seat allegedly unrestrained.

The man was also charged with permit unlicensed driving and permit passenger unrestrained under 16 years. He is due to face Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on February 29.

The Queensland Police State Traffic Task Force is holding a traffic enforcement operation on Fraser for the end of school holidays and Australia Day.
