For the first time in 15 years, a Gympie race day will be featured on a national mainstream racing channel Saturday’s Gympie RSL race day, with its first ever TAB meet.
Gympie Turf Club president Shane Gill said the TAB meet meant Saturday’s race day will be televised on the national Sky Racing channel, and include increased prize money.
He said this was the first time in more than 15 years a Gympie race day would be televised, and on a national racing channel was an exciting and big occasion.
The day features a six race program with racing kicking off at 1pm, as well as a TAB, bar and dining.
There will also be an afterparty, with local band Sneeky Pete performing live.
Mr Gill said while he didn’t have an exact number of tickets sold, sales were shaping up to a full house by Saturday afternoon, with several of the 30 marquees reaching full capacity.
With predictions of slightly cloudy and warm weather, he said the weather would be perfect for the race day.
“It won’t be too hot, it won’t be too cold,” he said.
Tickets for the race day can be purchased online on the Gympie Turf Club website, and at the gate on Saturday.
The gates to the race track open at 11am.
