‘Ash is gone and so is the buggy’

UNIDENTIFIED thieves took more than a few farming goods when they broke into a shed on a Gunalda property on Saturday night.

UNIDENTIFIED thieves took more than a few farming goods when they broke into a shed on a Gunalda property on Saturday night.

A home made buggy, which was built by Don Birt 15 years ago for his sons Ashley and Dale to learn to drive in, was stolen from Anderleigh Rd.

The unique vehicle had sentimental value to Don and his wife Linda, whose son Corporal Ashley Birt who was killed as a 22-year-old serving in Afghanistan four years ago.

The buggy, a creative combination of bits and pieces, is a living memory of happy childhood days the boys spent driving with their father on their property.

"It's something Don treasured because he and Ash and Dale spent a lot of time in it," Mrs Birt said.

The buggy was being stored in locked shed on a relative's property when it was taken alongside bails of hay and diesel from a tractor.

The Birts reported the crime to police, but were not afforded much hope of the buggy's return.

The family would like anyone with information about the missing buggy to make contact.

"Ash is gone and so has the buggy and many precious memories," Mrs Birt wrote on Facebook.
