SHOWERS will continue into the weekend in the Gympie region, forecasters say, with Sunday afternoon looking hopeful for some finer weather.
"Sunday afternoon is looking fine and probably the best time of the weekend,” Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Andrew Bufalino said.
Friday and Saturday are likely to be sprinkled with patchy rain, with some sun on Saturday morning, before the threat of gusty thunderstorms in the afternoon.
The early shower activity will continue on Sunday morning, Mt Bufalino said, as the trough is expected to move through before leaving .
While storm season is not due to start until mid-October, the forecaster said it is not unusual to get wet weather events leading up to it.
The number of thunderstorms will begin to increase as we approach thunderstorm season, he said.
