RED Cross volunteers thanked Gympie Apex for their generous donation of $3500 yesterday.
The three ladies, Shirley Eyre, Hazel Gilby and Barbara Hack, are part of loyal band of volunteers who run the Gympie Red Cross Medical Equipment Hire Service.
They thanked Gympie Apex for the donation and said it allowed them to purchase new and improved equipment to hire to the public.
The money enabled the hire service to purchase a heavy duty wheelchair, three standard wheelchairs, two seat walkers with folding frames, two seat walkers with high locking brakes and a height adjustable day chair.
The money donated came from the funds raised by Apex at the 2008 Australian Country Music Muster in the Amamoor Creek State Forest.
The ladies said they were truly grateful for the donation and that it would allow the Red Cross Medical Equipment Hire Service to help more Gympie region people in need.
The service hires out all sorts of equipment to aid people who are immobile because of sickness or surgery.
On hand are crutches, wheelchairs, commodes, walking aides, shower aides plus lots of other useful equipment.
The service is situated in Red Cross House next to the laundry in the Gympie Hospital grounds.
The Red Cross Medical Equipment Hire Service is open between 1pm and 4pm, Monday to Friday, except public holidays.
The helpful volunteers can be contacted on 5482 8215 during business hours.
