50 years of wedded bliss

GLASTONBURY couple Bev and Merv Betts celebrated their 50th golden wedding anniversary on Saturday, July 28 – the very date of their wedding.

GLASTONBURY couple Bev and Merv Betts celebrated their 50th golden wedding anniversary on Saturday, July 28 - the very date of their wedding.

The day sought to have a family reunion and more than 70 relatives answered the call, coming from Gladstone, Brisbane and other areas near and far for the celebrations.

One of Bev's relatives, Vicki Genrich, visited from London and everyone was delighted to catch up with relatives they had not seen for a long time.

Merv had two cousins visit for the day who he had not seen for a time. Guests enjoyed a beautifully prepared hot lunch followed by delicious desserts.

Daughter Melinda prepared and decorated the Glastonbury hall for the occasion, making a wonderful setting for the event.

The couple married on January 28, 1962 in St Peters Church of England, with the Rev. L.W. Turner. Bev (nee Bothams) was attended by her cousins, Kay McGrath and little flower girl Annette Millers. Merv was backed by his brother Ellis.

The photographs of the wedding party were taken by 'Brownie' - Gympie photographer, Keith Brown.

Bev wore a slimline satin frock which was edged with heavy guipure lace carrying a long train. A tiara held her veil.

Bev and Merv spent their honeymoon at Hervey Bay and returned to the Glastonbury farm where they have lived since.
