15m Yacht Thalassa washes aground at popular Rainbow Beach

Authorities are warning residents, boaties and sightseers to keep away from a 15m yacht which washed onto a beach along the Cooloola Coast.

Australians reminded to keep safe in the water over summer

Cooloola Coast residents and boaties are being warned to steer clear of a yacht which ran aground at Rainbow Beach near the Lifesaving Club.

In a public statement, a Transport and Main Roads department spokesman said the 15m boat Thalassa is being guarded by private security for public safety.

The yacht caused a stir in the community and on social media when it washed onto the beach Friday morning.

Video captured and shared on social media by Rainbow Beach business “Ice Man” business owner Rob Gough claimed the boat had lost its rudder on Thursday night.

Police were called to help the crew remove materials from the beached yacht.

TMR ‘s spokesman Maritime Safety Queensland has provided the owner a formal direction to remove the vessel by 5pm Monday 27 June 2022.
