Gympie headless torso accused announced engagement to victim on Facebook

SHE’S accused of murdering her partner in the headless torso mystery. And her Facebook status update shortly before gave no hint as to her alleged crime.

Operation Lima Sea

A SUNSHINE Coast woman accused of the gruesome headless torso murder had announced her engagement to the victim the same month she allegedly killed him.

Lindy Yvonne Williams, 56, is charged with the murder and dismemberment of George Gerbic, 66, a well-known retired real estate agent and LNP member.

APPEAL: Police seek visitors to house

BREAKTHROUGH: Drug traces identified torso

Police will allege Ms Williams murdered Mr Gerbic in his Tanawha home, cutting off his head, legs and hands before dumping his partial torso an hour away.

It was discovered burning by a country road outside Gympie last September, sparking a 10-month investigation to identify the remains.

In the latest twist in the grisly crime, Ms Williams had updated her Facebook status to “Got Engaged” two weeks before the half-torso was found.

She also posted two photos of the couple and a photo of a gold bracelet with the comment: “Spoilt by George on my birthday” and a smiley face.

Police will allege the crime took place inside Mr Gerbic’s house on rural Main Creek Rd some time that month.

However a thorough search of Mr Gerbic’s estate, which ended yesterday, has failed to uncover the slain man’s head and missing legs and hands.

Federal MP for Fisher Mal Brough said he and wife Sue regarded both the victim and the alleged killer as friends and were shocked by the news.

Mr Brough said he had known the couple for many years and Mr Gerbic and Ms Williams subsequently joined the LNP.

“We considered them friends, we knew them both well, and I find this all unbelievable,” Mr Brough said.

Detective Inspector Bruce McNab said police had uncovered “several” items of interest that could form evidence.

Police also removed internal walls of the house to test for body fluid.

A backyard pool that had been filled with dirt was excavated and officers combed through a creek on the property, a nearby dam and long overgrown grass.

“We believe a crime has taken place at the house so we have been searching for forensic links,” Det-Insp McNab said.

He said the last positive sighting of Mr Gerbic, a father of two adult sons, Simon and Justin, was in early September.

However family and friends were not sufficiently alarmed to report him missing during his 10-month disappearance and police are trying to piece together why.

Mr Gerbic’s neighbour Judith Chapman said she had noticed Mr Gerbic’s absence over the past year as his yard became overgrown.
