Assistant Treasurer confuses debt and deficit

PRIME Minister Scott Morrison has ordered an investigation into Assistant Treasurer Stuart Robert’s internet bill after it was revealed the MP charged taxpayers about $2000 per month for the connection.

The Prime Minister this morning said he had asked Special Minister of State Alex Hawke to “look into” the matter and report back after Fairfax Media reported Mr Robert spent more than $2000 per month on average for internet for his Gold Coast home.

Mr Morrison said he thought taxpayers would want an explanation.

Mr Robert earlier defended spending far more than his parliamentary colleagues on home internet access, and billing the cost to taxpayers.

His May bill alone totalled $2,832.

The Queensland Liberal MP told Fairfax Media connectivity issues were responsible for the high charges because he had to use a wireless service as with other cheaper connections were unavailable when the service was installed.
