An elderly man is in hospital with significant facial injuries after a tyre he was inflating exploded in his face at a home on the Gold Coast.

An elderly Gold Coast man has been rushed to hospital with serious facial injuries after a tyre he was pumping up exploded
The man, aged in his 80s, was inflating the 20cm tyre at a residence at Birdlife Ct, Nerang, when the incident happened on Saturday afternoon.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the man suffered significant jaw, cheek and nose injuries.
He was taken by ambulance to Pindara Private Hospital in a stable condition.
It was not known what type of tyre was involved.
