A Gold Coast fisherman is “over the moon” after he caught a huge shark off the coast of K’gari.

Caught on his Assassin custom-built rod, Ryan Selvey said catching the shark was “intense”.

“Fighting this thing in the rips gutters and sand banks on the east coast of Fraser was intense,” Mr Selvey said.

On social media, Mr Selvey said he was “beyond stoked” with the catch which measured about three metres long.

Mr Selvey said the shark’s tail looked as though it had been chopped when it was younger or an old mating scar.

“No slide bait for this monster bru paddled it out pre much on a surfboard,” he said.

Crowds watching as the three men freed the shark from the shores back into the ocean.
