Hyatt unveils plans for new Brisbane hotel

GLOBAL tourism giant Hyatt have unveiled plans for a new $70 million hotel right in the centre of South Brisbane.

The new Hyatt Place, scheduled to open by 2023, will be part of the $700 million South City Square with the hotel to sit above a planned Readings Cinema complex.

The new-build hotel also represents a triumphant return to Queensland for the international giant for the first time since 2012 when Hyatt ended its relationship with Sanctuary Cove on the Gold Coast.

In the same year walked away from the Hyatt Regency at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast.

David Udell, Hyatt’s group president of the Asia Pacific region, said it was great to be back in Queensland and expressed his excitement at the chance to be attached to the ambitious South City Square project.

“It has energy and passion written all over it,” he said.

Hyatt has signed an agreement with Pellicano and Perri Projects – the joint-venture development partners behind South City Square, with work to start once construction of a new retail, commercial and entertainment precinct to sit below the hotel is finished.

Pellicano Managing Director Nando Pellicano said it was exciting to have a brand name as internationally recognised as Hyatt associated with South City Square.

Hyatt beat out bids from seven other international hotel brands to secure the contract.

Perri Projects Managing Director David Scalzo said South City Square had ‘enormous potential’ to transform South Brisbane.

The hotel will house 170 rooms as well as a spectacular rooftop pool and bar.
