BRISBANE’S richest tenant’s bid to turn part of her $6m house into a salon offering glamorous women eyelash extensions has been dealt a blow, after the council knocked back her development application.
Joy Crossingham, 33, the Bangkok-born eyelash stylist of Brisbane, applied to Brisbane City Council on February 25 for permission run her eyelash salon with four staff and eight “models” from the four-storey Ascot mansion dubbed “the trophy home of the decade”.
But on June 25, the council rejected her application arguing the “scale and function” of the salon was “obtrusive” and could disturb neighbours with noise, create more road traffic and be out of character with the leafy residential area, home to some of Brisbane’s priciest homes, court documents state.
Crossingham applied to the council using her company named The Beauty and Wellness Collective Pty Ltd (BWC).
She is sole director and shareholder.
She plans to run eyelash training days seven day’s each month, running from 8am to 6pm, she told the council.
BWC applied to overturn the council’s refusal in the Planning and Environment division of the District Court on July 24, court documents state.
Ms Crossingham, whose real name is Sasithorn, has already been using the Morgan St rental house for her lash training business, “Lash Joy” Academy, and lavish business parties, according to posts she has made to Instagram.
Lash Joy claims to have trained “more award-winning lash stylists than any other academy in Australia” and was declared one of the Australian Financial Review Fast Starters Top 100 companies last year.
Ms Crossingham also operates a salon called Brisbane Lashes from trendy James St in Fortitude Valley, where lashes cost up to $469, and need “refilling” every three weeks.
Ms Crossingham began in the eyelash business in 11 years ago after completing a basic one day course in Thailand, she says on Instagram.
Since then her business has grown along with the popularity of eyelash extensions which last up to a month.
Ms Crossingham and her fiance Jeremy Stephens rent the five bedroom, six bathroom, home from millionaire builder Glenn Rohrig and his wife Amanda Rohrig for $5500 a week, according to real estate database CoreLogic.
No date has been set for hearing in the District Court.
