One of Gladstone’s biggest sporting clubs has revealed plans to expand. Here is what we know about the proposal.

The sporting scene in Central Queensland is growing, with one of Gladstone’s major sports clubs lodging plans for a new sporting ground.

Yaralla Sports Club has lodged an application with the Gladstone Regional Council for a new bowling green development and the extension of an existing car park.

Plans show 98 new car parks, which will be accessible from the existing southern carpark.

The sports club has a membership base of about 100,000 people with 12 sports subcommittees and it has reinvested $32 million back into the club for its continued development, according to the Yaralla Sports Club website.

Plans for the bowling green expansion come after plans were approved in June for a new entertainment complex at the Barney Point club.

The approval was for a new cinema with eight rooms, including two gold class, that would be able to seat up to 468 patrons.

It was to include a foyer, games room, amenities, lounge, bar, candy bar and ticketing area and operate from 9am – 1am, Monday to Sunday.

The project was a joint venture between Yaralla Sports Club and Gladstone Cinemas, but in a shock move Gladstone Cinemas announced last month it had signed a new 10 year lease for its existing Dawson Road location, creating uncertainty over Yaralla’s future plans.

Yaralla Sports Club was contacted but declined to comment.
