Several sporting clubs in the region will share in $1.8 million as part of the state government’s COVID-19 Economic Recovery Plan.

Member for Gladstone Glenn Butcher said 16 clubs would receive $2,000 under Round Two of the Covid Safe Active Clubs Kickstarts program.

Mr Butcher said funding could be used for equipment or operational expenses.

“We know sport is an important part of life for families in the Gladstone region, with our clubs being the heart and soul of our community,” he said.

The Active Clubs Kickstart program is part of the $51.3 million COVID-SAFE Restart Plan which has supported the sport and active recreation industry through the global pandemic.

“As a lover of all sports myself I am so pleased to assist such a wide range of activities, which will energise families to get involved and get active,” he said.

“This investment strengthens the capability of our local clubs and volunteers so they can provide the best possible experience for their members.
