A Gladstone region wastewater treatment plant will receive a $2 million upgrade to help improve its facilities.
In a general meeting on June 15, Gladstone Regional Council unanimously voted to enter a contract with Blomfield Excavations to undertake pond relining and ancillary works at South Trees Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The South Trees plant requires two sludge ponds to be relined with concrete-reinforcement, as well additional ancillary works.
“The South Trees WWTP is a vital part of Gladstone Regional Council’s Wastewater Treatment infrastructure and relining of these sludge ponds will increase the useful life of the plant as well as ensure environmental compliance with the site Environmental Authority,” the general meeting report stated.
The works would primarily include preparatory works, excavation profiling, concrete-reinforced lining, inlet and outlet arrangements, sub coil drainage, and walkways.
The contract value with Blomfield Excavations was $2,491,392.95.
The ponds will be in operation during the works, however co-ordination with the Water Program Delivery Team would take place to ensure seamless transitions between operation and project works.
The works are expected to be completed by November.
