Tender awarded for Gladstone Aquatic Centre, pool to receive $793K upgrades

It was revealed council required a qualified contractor to undertake renewal works to bring the swimming pool complex back to an acceptable and accommodating standard.

In a general meeting on June 6, Councillors unanimously voted to enter a contract with T&C Services Pty Ltd for Gladstone Aquatic Centre Rejuvenation Phase Two works.

The next phase of upgrades to Gladstone Aquatic Centre were given the green light at a recent Gladstone Regional Council meeting.

The works will cost $793,166. 93 and will include a refurbishment of the male and female change rooms, construction of two new disabled toilet and shower cubicles, construction of three new family change rooms and installation of new roof framing to both the main amenities building, kiosk servery, and entry portal.

It will also include minor landscaping and planting works.

In council’s report, it was revealed council required a qualified contractor to undertake renewal works to the main amenities and facilities building in order to bring the swimming pool back to an acceptable and accommodating standard.

“The Gladstone Aquatic Centre is a significant Council asset and is used by the Gladstone community on a daily basis,” a council report stated.

Councillor Natalia Muszkat said the amenities were long due to be upgraded.

“This is wonderful that we are getting this new facility,” she said.

The original Memorial Swimming Centre was constructed in 1975, followed by the addition of a Multi-Purpose Pool and building extension in 1988 and 1998 respectively.
