ROYAL turf has been declared on the Sunshine Coast for those who like to swim, cycle and run.

During the past decade, the South-East Queensland destination has been forming an enviable reputation as a triathlon epicentre.

It's home to a "triple crown" with some of the biggest events on the Australian athletic calendar.

Olympic distance races at Noosa during November and Mooloolaba in March events sell out individual spots within hours annually, while the sprint event at Caloundra each February has quickly gained a reputation as one of the best.

Good weather, clean beaches as well as some brilliant cycling routes through the hinterland and coast-side have played a pivotal role in the Coast's rise to triathlon fame.

And it hasn't gone unnoticed by some of the sport's best performers. Triathlon stars such as David Dellow, world championship runner-up from 2010 Caroline Steffan, legendary Greg Bennett, all call the Coast home.

The trio of races attract athletes of all abilities, but they are also great events for the whole family with a range of supporting events throughout the weekend.

Competitors don't need to be professionals or former champions of any discipline, many are just there to compete - rather than complete.

Anyone can register for other races held as part of the festival.

But you don't need to be donning the lycra or running shoes to enjoy the events. There's an amazing atmosphere with large crowds cheering on the mums, dads and children taking part.
